On our way out of San Juan, we made one final stop at Fuerte San Cristobal, another fort near
El Morro.
Keeping with our theme of the day, "things that take longer than they should", we finally found a parking spot for the rental. I believe this can be classified as a small miracle as parking spaces seem to be hard to come by in Old San Juan. We walked from the parking garage back to El Morro to catch the tram that tranports visitors between the two forts. What we didn't know was that the tram stops at numerous museums to drop off and pick up visitors, and we actually PASSED San Cristobal before we decided to cut our losses and jump off the tram and walk back to the fort before we lost any more time. When we finally got to the entrance of the fort, we discovered a lovely little parking lot where we could have parked the car (45 minutes ago!) during our visit. Of course.
Construction of San Cristobal began in 1634 by the Spanish to defend Old San Juan against land attacks from the East. Parts of the fort were used as recently as World War II by the United States Armed Forces.

Farewell to San Juan as we head further East to Fajardo! Just in time for the very congested 5:00 traffic. Of course.
