3-Year Old Doctor Visit

Zoee had her 3-year check up at the doctor today.  We talked about it for days to prepare Zoee for one of her least favorite places.  She was there a few weeks ago for her flu shot, and the memory was clearly too fresh for her.

Zoee was fine as we talked about what the doctor would do - weigh her, measure her height, check her body, ask her questions about things she knows, etc.  Zoee repeated it all back to me each time I asked her what would happen at the doctor.  And I always ended our conversation with, "And Zoee won't cry."  And she agreed with me.

Until today.

We pulled in the parking lot and the tears started.  She cried her way into the waiting area.  She cried for the first 5 minutes of our wait, and then she settled down and started talking to me about things around the room.

Then the nurse called "Zoee", and the tears started again.

She cried all through the weighing, the measuring, the Mommy and Nurse chat session.  And then she calmed down and started looking at books and answering the nurse's questions.  She even held up 3 fingers to show how old she is, something she has been practicing.

And then the doctor came in, and the tears started again.

Zoee cried when I tried to take off her clothes.  She cried when the doctor looked in her ears.  She cried as the doctor gently checked her tummy.  She finally calmed down enough to again show her three fingers that she had been practicing.  She was able to show how she can jump.  She was almost done!

And then the doctor mentioned that there would be no shots at this visit, and Zoee cried again.

I tried to reassure her that there would be no ouchies, no shots, she was all done!  She must have believed me because the tears stopped a bit, and she was able to get out the words, "I want a sticker."  Thankfully, there is a whole wall of stickers to choose from at the doctor's office.  And she even brought one home for her brother.
