Run For the Schools

Our family participated in an Iowa City tradition today...the Iowa City Road Races' Run For the Schools!  Owyn was thrilled to not only run in the 1/2 mile race, but to also volunteer before, during, and after the races!

On Saturday, Owyn helped his Dad paint the finish line on the street...

On Sunday morning, he ran the first event of the day - the 1/2 mile fun run.  And, once again, Daddy left his volunteer post at the finish line so that he could run with Owyn.

After Owyn's event, we hustled out to our friend's house on the route so that we could volunteer at a water stop.  We saw lots of people running the 10k and 1/2 marathon races.  We helped pass out water, and Owyn had a blast handing out red hot chili pepper necklaces to any runners who wanted one (thanks to our friend, Robin, for supplying the music and necklaces!)

Finally, when the races were all finished, we went back downtown to help clean up all the race equipment.  Owyn got to help put some equipment in the storage shed, a job he loves doing.

It was great to see Owyn not only participate in an event that directly benefits his school, but to also see how excited he was to volunteer.  We hope that he will want to continue that spirit of giving, and welcome many more opportunities to volunteer in the community in the years to come.  Way to go, Owyn!
