Owyn completed his first two triathlons last year. He did one through the Iowa City Recreation Department and one in Waterloo last year. He enjoyed them so much he wants to do some more this year.
Today was the second year of the Iowa City Recreation Department's youth triathlon. The course was the same as last year. One length (20 yards) in Mercer Park's indoor pool. They exit the pool to their transition area, where they put on their shoes and socks and run to their bikes in the parking lot. From there they biked one lap around the park (1/2 mile), transition to the run and run one lap around the same park.
Owyn did great in the whole triathlon, but did especially good on the run. In the past he normally would have had to walk some of the run, but this year he ran the whole thing without stopping. He finished third in his age group! Owyn also checked another item off his Summer List - participate in an athletic event. (Mommy and Zoee still need to do one event before summer ends.)
