Running For A Cause

We have a friend, Steve, who is attempting to run around Lake Michigan. That's 1,037 miles of running. 40 marathons in 40 days. When he finishes, not IF but WHEN, he will be the first person to ever run all the way around Lake Michigan.

Unbelievable.

He is doing this to raise money for the Livestrong Foundation as well as raise awareness for those who are in the Cancer fight. He is calling it "The Run To Cure Cancer". He has been planning for a year to work out a route, gather gear, do interviews, raise money, and collect stories of inspiration from cancer survivors and those who have lost the battle.  I have been so impressed with his dedication to this cause, and with his determination to start and finish something that can be fairly described as CRAZY!

Today was Day 1 of his journey around the lake so we drove into Chicago to see him off from Navy Pier at 9:00 this morning.

At Harry Caray's before he starts running

The only photo evidence that Zoee was there
since she refused to be in any pictures.

Owyn LOVED the RV Steve
is using for his support vehicle

All the people sending Steve off on his journey

We all ran with him as he began, but the kids and I only made it about 10 minutes before we quit and hit the beach instead.

Owyn did great running with the group

Run, Steve, Run!!

Jack stayed with him a few miles longer, but then he too said good-bye and good luck and headed back to us. Luckily we live in an era of advanced technology so we can stay updated on his journey through his blog. It's possible we, or at least Jack, will meet up with him again in the next 39 days, somewhere else along that big lake. Until then, we wish him cloud-covered days, restful nights, and blister-free feet.
