Zoee's Birthday Cake

Jack decorates all birthday cakes in our house.  He loves creating a picture that matches Owyn's and Zoee's interests each year.  For Owyn, we've seen the monkey from his favorite book, a 4-car train, Bob the Builder, Handy Manny, CTA map, and the digestive system.  Zoee's cakes have been the same monkey from a favorite book, a 3-dimensional monkey, and a giant butterfly. 

Zoee's cake request this year seemed to cause the most anxiety in Jack.  She wanted a Mermaid cake, but she wanted it a certain way, and none of us could get a clear description of what exactly that meant to her. If we asked too many questions or guessed incorrectly, she ran to her room crying and slammed the door.  That's Zoee's reaction to many things when she feels frustrated. So Jack was about to give up and purchase a cake, or turn the decorating over to me.  Neither one acceptable options.

We ended up buying some toy mermaids to stick in the "ocean" of her cake, and she was very happy with that outcome. 

Daddy got some extra help frosting the ocean.

Zoee was very happy with her cake!

And she was THRILLED to have
new mermaids for the bathtub!
